Shortly after signing to Young Thug’s YSL imprint, Gunna jumped to prominence with his most recent release, Drip Season 3. Born Serio Kitchens in College Park, Georgia, he started his career as Yung Gunna releasing his first project, Hard Body in the summer of 2013. Three years later, after a stint in jail, he dropped the Yung from his name and re-introduced himself to the world.

“I would say about three years ago. End of 2015. That’s when I was like, ‘I’m gonna really do this shit. I was incarcerated for about 9, 10 months before this,” he told  Billboard. It was shortly after his release that Gunna landed his first major feature on the Young Thug track “Floyd Mayweather” (alongside Travis Scott and Gucci Man) from the  album, Jeffrey.

Speaking on his relationship with Thug, Gunna told HotNewHipHop, “I met him through one of my big homies. Like one of my uncles, one of the old OG’s introduced me to him”. It’s this relationship that started to get Gunna noticed and in the fall of 2016 led to his signing with Thug’s label. He subsequently dropped his first project, the aforementioned Drip Season. The project boasted features from Thug, Lil Duke, Young Trez and Neechie, with production from TM88, Wheezy, OG Butla, Jugg Santana, Bricks among others.

Seven months later, Gunna followed up with the second installment of Drip Season, which featured two stand-out appearances gaining even real traction;  “Beat Da Case” with Offset and “YSL.” with Playboi Carti. His Drop or Down tape dropped late last year in collaboration with producer Wheezy, followed by the hotly-anticipated Drip Season 3 featuring Lil Uzi Vert, Nav,  Lil Yachty, Lil Baby and Young Thug.

A live performance of ‘Oh Okay,’ at this year’s Rolling Loud festival only proved that the Georgia rapper’s got next and Drip or Drown 2, which he told Billboard will be out before the year is up, may just place him at the top of the game.
